The New Sakai: Efforts to construct the Sakai idenity

This study is about the transformation of Sakai tribe regarding changes in natural, socio-economic and political environment. The has blended with community, owning companies, holding as well government positions. now ‘new Sakai’ that different from ‘old stereotyped backward, stupid, introvert. purpose this paper to describe response towards through their identity construction. We used ethnography a method data was obtained by living five kebatinan. researcher lived at research location, observed situation, conducted in-depth interviews had continuous discussions participant deepen understanding data. then analyzed descriptively discussing Warren's theory construction adaptation theory. found people adapt significantly One sources adaptability comes education, since reformation, have massively made educational efforts for younger generation. concludes every community ability its environment based on knowledge possessed community.
